medieval doublet, many people first think of the padded undergarments of knights and warriors. Today, we often use more precise terms for this protective layer, such as
gambeson, arming doublet, or aketon, to avoid misunderstandings. Historical doublets are characterized by the fact that they fit tightly to the body and, similar to jackets, always formed the second or third layer of clothing.
Doublets were a common fashion element in various variations from the 15th to the 17th century, until they were replaced by longer vests during the Baroque period. They were often made of sturdy fabric, and the
leather doublet was also very common, especially during the
early modern period. A high-quality leather doublet is an excellent fit for
characters, such as the
musketeer doublet or a

medieval vests largely corresponds to the modern understanding of a vest: a sleeveless garment that can fit tightly when closed or be worn open, usually as a second layer of clothing. The length of a medieval vest can vary greatly, from very short
oriental vests to knee-length Renaissance vests.
Vests are particularly popular in modern
LARP settings covering eras from the Baroque to the 1920s. But of course, you will also find
steampunk vests or
