Our Antique Shop for Antique Larp and Reenactment

In our Antiquity Larp category you will find everything about the time of the Greeks, Romans, Celts and Egyptians. In Fantasy Larp, historical contexts are often used for costumes and character concepts. And the ancient world offers many possibilities and inspiration to create exciting ancient costumes.

At Andracor you will find Roman garments, historic Greek clothing, armour for centurions, legionaries and hoplites. And you can also buy matching antique foam weapons. We also cover mythological aspects of antiquity with our Amazon armour for example. And even if Egyptians are rare in Larp, you can find some antique accessories that are also suitable for an Egyptian. So welcome to our Antiquity Shop!

Antiquity in Larp and historically

Antiquity is generally referred to as the epoch before the Middle Ages. Antiquity is a very broad term that includes many advanced civilisations. It actually describes a period between 3500 BC and around 800 AD, if you don't start counting with the ancient Greeks. In other words, well over 4000 years of human history. The ancient world stretches from the end of the Bronze Age and the development of the first writing, with the beginning of the first advanced civilisations of the Sumerians and Egyptians and ancient Greece, to the Roman Empire. One encyclopaedia alone would not be sufficient to explain everything that falls within this period.

The most familiar empires of this time are the Greeks and Romans, but the empires of the Egyptians and Sumerians also belong to the ancient world. For the Larp area, the Celts are still an extremely important influence. It is perhaps less well known that the Mayans or the Sumerians are also impressive advanced civilisations of antiquity. Sumerians, for example, invented the first real writing! And the Mayans built pyramids in the middle of the jungle that still puzzle archaeologists today. China's first great dynasties also arose in antiquity. And these are only the very greatest cultures that originated in antiquity. The origins of the Vikings are still partly attributed to antiquity, although they are more likely to have originated in the Middle Ages.

The Roman outfit. What did the Romans wear?

The ancient Romans are probably the most popular culture in larp or reenactment! But what characterises typical Roman garb? Roman everyday clothing was a reflection of the social hierarchy and cultural life in ancient Rome. Men of rank typically wore airy, colourful tunics, no trousers, and leather sandals, while women were dressed in long robes with different fabrics and decorations. Hairstyles were elaborately groomed and beards were considered rather unkempt and barbaric. Cleanliness was considered important and people bathed and groomed themselves in bathhouses. Jewellery was very richly decorated depending on status and could be made of bronze, brass or even gold.

Soldiers and officers of the Roman legion also wore practical tunics under their armour. Here, of course, the edge dominated the appearance and quality of the armour and clothing. However, fashion in ancient Rome and also within the Roman legions was subject to major changes over the almost 1000-year existence of the Roman Empire and is therefore difficult to generalise. You can buy splendid Roman garments from us to portray an ancient-inspired larp character.

The Romans and the Germanic Tribes - Two Worlds between Conflict and Coexistence

The relationship between Romans and Germanic peoples was characterized by a complex interplay of trade, conflicts, and cultural exchange. While the Romans expanded their empire through conquests, they encountered Germanic tribal societies that strongly defended their independence. Nevertheless, there were periods of cooperation and trade that led to cultural exchange. Roman technologies and products were adopted by the Germanic peoples, while Roman legions and administrative structures interacted with Germanic tribes. However, cultural differences and territorial claims brought many tensions and conflicts, which also manifested in wars and border disputes. The relationship between Romans and Germanic peoples left a rich legacy that has significantly shaped the history and development of Europe to this day. It was the same with another large ethnic group in Europe: the Celts!

Buy Celtic clothing at Andracor.

The Celtoi, as they were disparagingly called by the Romans, were not a single people or tribe. The Celts were a huge number of completely different tribes in central and northern Europe, who were simply dismissed as barbarians by the Romans. Are you interested in the clothing of the Celts and would like to know what they wore? Unfortunately we have to say: There is no such thing as THE Celtic clothing! Celtic clothing varied greatly depending on the region and time period, but often showed a rich interplay of colours and patterns. Tunics, trousers, capes and apron dresses were common items of clothing, which were often elaborately decorated.

The horned helmet, which is often wrongly attributed to the Vikings, was found in Celtic archaeological sites and was probably only used for ceremonial purposes. Who wants to be grabbed by the head by their opponent in battle? Celts wore beards and also braided hairstyles, and jewellery was a popular status symbol among Celtic peoples. Incidentally, our most famous Celts in pop culture are Asterix and Obelix, and the depiction of clothing is not that far removed from what Celtic clothing might have looked like.

At Andracor you can buy tunics and trousers to represent Celtic characters. We offer a solid basic garment from which you can then create your own personalised Celtic outfit with a little handicraft work.

Depicting Antiquity at a Larp Event

Antiquity is still popular through films such as Gladiator, the Spartans from 300 or Ben Hur, and Greek myths and legends such as Hercules or the Amazons theme through Wonder Woman, for example, are taken up again and again. So it's no wonder that antiquity is also finding its way into Fantasy Larp. The field of antiquity is gigantic and the possibilities for portraying an antique-inspired Larp character almost limitless. The Roman legionary, Spartan hoplite or Egyptian high priest are just a few of them! Ancient models that would make exciting larp characters are countless. In fantasy Larp, of course, historical context is combined with fantasy, which can lead to exciting creations of one's own. More frequently represented in Larp are the ancient Romans. Here there are whole groups dedicated to legionary play and there are also re-enactments that recreate battles between Romans and Celts, for example. Ancient lifestyles are also portrayed in reenactments. Be it Roman legionaries or Greek hoplites and their everyday life. Ancient equipment is often not easy to find and not always easy to build yourself. At Andracor we try to cover a part of what you can use for ancient characters.

Ancient armour from Andracor

Our in-house leather armour also includes some pieces of armour that can be used for ancient characters in Larp and reenactment. For example, our Centurio Musculata, which is handmade in Berlin Germany. Or our gladiator armour belt for fighting in the ancient arena. But you will also find smaller antique leather accessories by Andracor, like our Amazons bracelets or a leather loincloth. We use only chrome-free, vegetable-tanned, European leather for the production of our leather products, which also applies to our antique leather armour and accessories! The antique shop of Andracor is constantly expanding. So it's always worth coming back!
