Buy your Renaissance Garb at Andracor

At Andracor we offer a variety of Renaissance clothing, equipment and garb to dress up in style for a Larp or Renaissance event. From the musketeer, to the Landsknecht, to the Renaissance noblewoman or nobleman, you can find suitable Renaissance clothes for your Larp character. Some of the garments are replicas of the clothing of the Tudors and provide a great basis for creating Kings, Princesses and other Nobles. You can also buy Renaissance armour, as well as matching Renaissance Larp weapons such as the rapier.

From the Renaissance to the Baroque - A brief overview

In this category we summarise two successive epochs. The Renaissance began after the Late Middle Ages as a European cultural epoch between the 15th and 16th centuries AD. The French name Renaissance (rebirth) was only given to it afterwards in the 19th century. The decisive factor was that cultural achievements from Antiquity were taken up again and continued. This included above all parts of art, architecture and philosophy. The Renaissance originated in Italy and gradually spread throughout Europe. Also first in Italy and then partly in France, the Renaissance then gradually turned into the Baroque. Countless old masters of art and literature lived during this epoch. For example, William Shakespeare and Dante Alighieri or Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and Albrecht Dürer. It is beyond the scope of this article to list all the changes and advances that took place during the Renaissance. The Renaissance was also a time of great kingdoms like the Tudors and rich merchant families like the Medici. Also worth mentioning is certainly the "discovery" of America by Christopher Columbus at the end of the Middle Ages in the transition to the Renaissance. Even though we now know that the Vikings were definitely faster, not to mention the indigenous people of America. But with Columbus, the colonisation of the continent by Europe began step by step. Luther, his theses and the Reformation of the Church also fall into the period of the Renaissance and its effects reach far into the Baroque. A diverse, exciting epoch, then, which can form a basis for great Larp characters.

The Baroque - the crooked pearl.

The Baroque, from the Portuguese "barroco" for irregular pearl, followed the Renaissance in Europe primarily as an artistic period. There was a move to combine artistic disciplines such as architecture, painting and sculpture with each other and to create large-scale total works of art. The pompous, richly decorated palaces such as Versailles, Schönbrunn or Sanssouci still bear witness to this striving today. The Baroque period also saw the so-called golden age of piracy, as well as the great Era of the musketeers of the French court. The Baroque was not an entirely peaceful period, with the thirty Years' War beginning in 1618. The technical development of firearms, which originated as early as the late Renaissance, permanently changed the battlefields of Europe.

Baroque & Renaissance in Larp

In live-action role-playing, Renaissance and Baroque-inspired characters are readily found in military units. Groupings of landsknechts are very common, but also fencing and musket-carrying characters reminiscent of musketeers can be seen from time to time in Fantasy Larp. Larp pirates also often use the aesthetics of baroque clothing to somewhat correspond to the historically correct era. However, everyday clothing such as the shirt or the blouse with bodice are not historically attributed to the Middle Ages but rather to the Renaissance. The bustier and corset are also set in these eras, but are popular with a variety of female Larp characters. Even Elven clothing and accessories are partly inspired by Baroque art. At Andracor, you'll find in-house bags for belts from our leather workshop that fit perfectly into both eras. A special feature are also our courtly dresses from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which are also a good way to celebrate a historical wedding by stand. We regularly add new Renaissance and Baroque products to our Larp shop, so it's worth coming back!
