This 16 cm long fox skull made of 3D-printed PLA is definitely interesting for all witches, shamans, orcs, and the undead. The unpainted skull can easily be painted according to your preference, making it a unique eye-catcher for your outfit. It also makes a great display piece at your camp, thanks to its realistic look.

You can easily drill through the eye sockets with a wood drill, for example, to attach the skull to a chain or leather strap.

The skull is, of course, vegan and was printed without any animal suffering. It’s also much tougher than a real skull and won’t break easily.

This PLA skull is also suitable for terrarium enthusiasts. PLA is a corn-based plastic and therefore non-toxic. Ideally, however, you should sand, clean and disinfect the skull before using it in the terrarium. Painting the skull should be correspondingly non-toxic and should also be fixed with non-toxic natural substances.

Steps for Painting a Bone-Colored Skull

• 1. Take fine-grit sandpaper and lightly sand the skull, especially at the back of the head where it rested on the print bed.
• 2. Prime the skull with a little primer; this reduces the visibility of the print lines and helps the paint adhere better.
• 3. Mix the ochre with black or brown and paint the deep areas of the skull such as the eye and nose sockets, also painting scratches or hard edges and grooves.
• 4. Take a lighter tone than the basecolor and wipe off the paint before applying it to the raised parts of the skull (dry brushing).
• 5. Use pure black for the deepest holes in the skull, the nose, and strong grooves.
• 6. Paint additional details until you're satisfied with the result.
• 7. Once dry, take matte or gloss varnish depending on the look you want, and spray or paint the entire skull. This seals the paint, making the skull ready for use in LARP.
