Fun fact 1 about eye patches: Pirates didn't necessarily wear them because they had lost an eye. It was more of a practical tool to quickly adjust to the lighting conditions from light to dark when a battle continued below deck. Simply put up the eye patch and the battle continued in the dark.

Fun fact 2 about eye patches for pirates: Eye patches were probably very rarely common in the golden age of piracy. However, pirates could permanently blind their eyes by looking through sextants. The result may have been hidden under eye patches. No one knows for sure.
