This incredibly real-looking padded weapon is a replica of a Fanziska or Franciska throwing axe. This special throwing axe was used on the battlefield, especially in the Merovingian Frankish Empire around the time of the 5th to the 7th century. Thrown from a distance of about 10 metres, it was possible to achieve considerable impact power with a little practice. It also stands to reason that the Frankish throwing axe, as it is also called, was hurled together with many others as an axe hail. Examples of this distinctive axe were already found in the late Roman armies.
